Distance Education and Duties Of the Open Program Course
Coordinator of the University of Brazil

 
Abstract
 

This study is the result of a survey applied to course coordinators who work at the Open University System in Brazil. Its main objective is to verify if the duties established for the program coordinator have been observed in the development of their activities. The chosen research method is qualitative, was complemented by the use focused interviews. The questions were divided into groups, involving the planning, monitoring, evaluation, selection and training of the agents involved. After analyzing the results it was identified that the tasks set by the Open University was being partially met by respondents and that particularly the planning activities (development of teaching methodology, course material, course financial planning sheet, and planning and development of the students’ selection processes) required more attention from the coordinators.
