The Learning Culture of Educational Organizations. Diagnostic tools and Assessment

Abstract

Educational research developed from experiences, has increasingly, shown to improve education when schools function as learning organizations. Promoting improvement processes should have, as starting point, a “diagnosis” of the organization’s current situation. In this paper we review the best diagnostic tools we have on learning organizations, their categorization and their adaptation to the Spanish context. The “Dimensions of the Learning Organization Questionnaire”, since its proposal by Watkins and Marsick (1997), has been widely accepted, with a cross-cultural adaptation and validation in many countries. Therefore, it is done an extensive analysis, specifically to its adaptation and validation in the field Hispano (Colombia and Venezuela). To the study on which we rely we have done (Bolivar, 2011) our own translation and an adaptation to school context, particularly on its short version (Yang, 2003). Concurrently, lines were formulated to complete the diagnosis by qualitative instruments and meet the dimension of Professional Learning Community.
