Ongoing Education of English Teachers: A Successful Experience in Costa Rica

 
Abstract
 

This article presents the development and analysis of results obtained in an Ongoing Training Project for English Teachers working at the Ministry of Education of Costa Rica. This project was coordinated and implemented from 2008 to 2011 by a group of academics from the four public Universities of Costa Rica and a national advisor from MEP. The importance of professional growth and ongoing education of teachers of English as a foreign language is visualized throughout the results of the Project. Data presented is a view of Costa Rican English teachers’ linguistic performance before and after a 350 hour training process. This project represents a change in the organizational structures regarding professional development within the country.
