Common and distinctive features of access systems to the University in Catalonia, Community of Valencia and Basque Country
Abstract

We study the results of entrance examinations to the University of Catalonia, Community of Valencia and Basque Country, through the analysis of the results obtained in June of 2011 and the evolution of the entrance examinations results in courses 08-09, 09-10 and 10-11. For the Community of Valencia there is a slight upward tendency on the average mark and pass rate. Access systems in Catalonia and the Basque Country are more similar in relation with the weighting of subjects and in the cut-off marks. The Community of Valencia has certain distinctive characteristics with respect to the other two as: higher average scores for the same subject in the specific phase that in the general phase, higher cut-off marks for access to certain university degrees, inclusion of a greater number of subjects with weight 0.2 and much better results in the access system for people over 25, 40 and 45.
