The Access and Abandonment of the Mandatory Basic Education in Mexico, 1990-2005. Demographic Balance of Educational Opportunities the 15 to 19 year olds

Abstract

The educational reforms promoted in 1990 and 2000 were justified in Mexico to improve the quality of education. Several policies are oriented to improve the efficiency of the education system. Others were directed towards a more equitable distribution of educational opportunities. This work aims to observe the behavior of the core indicators of access and neglect of basic education by the population 15 to 19 years in the period 1990-2005. This age group can verify the overall impact of federal policies designed to increase access and retention of people in the compulsory basic education, whereas education was declared as such in 1993. The observation is made from a demographic perspective. The data analysis make with outcome indicators. The population observed over the age rules (15 years) to attend formal education in the regular services. The analysis is performed in two directions: transversal (states) and longitudinal (years 1990-2000-2005). Here we can see some effects of compensation policy, in combination with population dynamics.
