Educational Supervision and Evaluation of Teachers: Imagine, Learn, Reflect, Act!

Cornélia Garrido de Sousa Castro
.Abstract

The reflections made on the redefinition of the teaching profession and the role that teachers have to play at school, led to inquiry into the characterisTIC that a supervisor must have. The various definitions and different perspectives of supervision found in the literature frame, theoretically, the presentation and description of some aspects of a planning activity of supervision in a sub-department subject.

It is intended to achieve a self-reflection and a critical analysis by the actors involved, which will allow producing ideas for action in terms of gradual adjustment and reorientation at the level of the supervision action in a sub-department subject. This perspective fits in with the concern evident in the Portuguese legislation (Law N.º. 43/2007, the 22nd February), which indicates that the supervised teaching practice should be designed to promote the professional development of teachers, before the challenges of everyday life and professional performances.
In this sense, it is proposed a meso planning of a supervision activity in lower and middle education – sub-department of physics and chemistry – in order to detect strengths, weaknesses and/or constraints felt in the supervision activity. These will identify and consolidate the strategies implemented that will lead to an improved learning.
