Ralph Leighton is course leader for PGCE 11-18 Citizenship, the largest such course in England, and a former programme director for the secondary pre-service teaching programme (PGCE) at Canterbury Christ Church University. He previously taught in schools for over 22 years and has extensive experience in public examinations and as a school governor.
His research interests include citizenship education and social change, the construction of and support for citizenship teachers, radical education, and the nature of citizenship education in the independent schools’ sector. He has published widely in those areas and is a regular reviewer for several journals. His book 'Teaching Citizenship Education: A Radical Approach' was published by Continuum Press in 2012.
