  Abstract

Traditionally, the aspects related to the personal, social and emotional development have not been part of the educational objectives that constitute what we could call “the hardcore” of the educational decisions about the deaf students. However, in the last years, a growing interest for these issues has developed. This article tackles some of the difficulties that deaf students can face in their socio- emotional development; it includes some recent research on the Mind Theory, cognitive aspects closely related to certain social abilities. In second place, some factors that may be influencing in the social and personal development of deaf children and youngsters are presented. Finally, we present a draft of the role of schools in the promotion of the socio - emotional wellbeing of these students.
