Student Desistence from Courses at Graduate atthe Federal University of Ceará (UFC): The Opinions of Teatchers and Coordinators

Abstract

This research studies the phenomenon of students’ desistence from courses at graduate level at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) from the teachers and coordinators perspectives. Having made a revision of the literature available on the matter and the investigations carried out by W. B. Andriola and his helpers, this text offers data from 52 teachers and 21 coordinators of courses at graduate level at the UFC. The results show that the majority of the coordinators and the teachers who were interviewed had a favorable opinion for the function of a teacher tutor. They were also of the opinion that it’s the responsibility of the coordinators to offer relevant and pertinent information to all candidates for graduate courses at the UFC. Finally, they felt that it falls to the administrator to improve the physical infra-structure with special attention to the classrooms and the laboratories.
